Lavater Antoinette Garrison Gardner, 89, of Detroit, Michigan, died February 28, 2015.
She was born February 18, 1926, in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of the late George C. and Gladys O. Garrison.
In addition to her parents, Lavater was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Gardner and her brother, George C. Garrison, Jr.
She was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church and was a clerk in the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Detroit until her retirement.
Lavater is survived by her sisters, Gloria G. Carper of Institute, and Janet G. Jones of Montclair, NJ; nieces, nephews, cousins, and "special daughters."
Funeral service will be held at noon Friday, March 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Paul A. Dunn and the Rev. Clifford A. Sherrod, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
Friends may call one hour prior to service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
