Lawrence "Pete" Duncan, 88, went home to heaven on August 8, 2008, at Thomas Memorial Hospital from complications of pneumonia.
He was a life long resident of Dunbar. He was born August 29, 1919 in Dunbar, son of the late Esther and Edward Duncan.
Pete retired from Union Carbide in 1981 and was an active volunteer for the city of Dunbar and loved to work in the Senior Center there. He was recently honored for his 20 plus years of service with having the center named after him. He loved to assist people with transportation to the grocery store. He was an avid square and round dancer and was a member of Dancers Choice. He was a long time member and officer in the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.
Pete served in the US Army in World War II as a young man where he met his wife of 54 years, Lucille Haile.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; son, Jon Duncan of Abingdon, Va. and one granddaughter.
He is survived by his son Gene Duncan and his wife, Claudia of Hurricane; brother, Leonard Duncan of Cross Lanes; daughter-in-law, Becky Duncan of Abingdon, Va.; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and special companion, Frankie Wheeler of Dunbar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial will be in Thurston Cemetery, Dunbar, following the service.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
