With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Lawrence Preston Richmond, lovingly known as “Keithy Richmond” on June 26, 2026, in Charleston, West Virginia, at the age of 61.
Keithy was born on February 6, 1965, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Carolyn and James Richmond. A proud athlete and graduate of DuPont High School’s Class of 1983. He spent many years as a dedicated sales representative but his greatest work was the impact he made on the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Keithy never met a stranger. His warm smile, infectious laugh, generous heart, and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like family. Whether he was cheering on his beloved San Francisco 49ers, casting a fishing line, grilling for family and friends, throwing darts, playing horseshoes, or enjoying a competitive card game, he found joy in the simple moments and loved bringing people together.
He had a heart that gave freely. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, share a meal, or offer words of encouragement. His kindness, strength, and love will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew him.
Keithy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lillian S. Hogan (G-Granny); grandparents, Chillion and Ella Profit; fathers, James A. Richmond and Lawrence P. Jones; brother, James M. Richmond; uncle, Howard S. Hogan (Neal); aunt, Marion Burks (Sukey); niece, Jordan Jones-Harris; and other extended family members.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving mother, Carolyn A. Richmond; spouse, Jill L. Richmond; children, Brandon T. Richmond, Lexus A. Richmond-Davis, and Jaden C. Richmond; grandsons, Julian M. Richmond and Mason A. Richmond; granddaughter, Memphis A. Davis who was a light in his life; niece, Jasmine R. Richmond; nephew, James M. Richmond Jr.; niece, Laken Jones-Harris; sister, Leslie Jones-Harris; and a host of extended family members, lifelong friends, and all those blessed to have known him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff of CAMC Memorial Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Keithy and the family during such a difficult time.
A Celebration of Keithy’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on August 1, 2026, at New Life Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church located at 412 21st Street, Charleston, West Virginia with Rev. James Ealy officiating. A Celebration of Life gathering will immediately follow the service.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Keithy’s legacy of love, laughter and generosity will live on. His life was a blessing and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed until we meet again.
May the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
