Lena Pearl Pauley Boyd, of Dunbar, was born July 7, 1922 at Crooked Creek, Kanawha County, and passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at her home.

She was a 1941 graduate of Washington District High School. Lena was a "Rosey the Riviter" during World War II in Akron, Ohio. She was employed at Fletcher Enamel Co. in Dunbar and in 1975 went to LPN School at Garnett and graduated in 1976. She then began working at St. Francis Hospital and retired in 1983.

Lena enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting pictures and reading. In 1992, after open heart surgery, she wrote this poem:

"There is a place for me

Beside the crystal sea

In God's garden of love

Where Angels sing

Praise to the Heavenly King"

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Scott Boyd; her parents, Harry and Allie Pauley; brothers, Neal and Harold Pauley; sister, Thelma Pauley and nephew, Larry Pauley.

Surviving are her daughter, Rita Boyd and her companion, Bobby Rucker; nephews, Jerry Pauley, Roger Pauley and his wife, Debbie; great nephews, Jimmy Pauley and his wife, Sherry, Billy Pauley, Eric Pauley and his wife, Andrea; great nieces, Casey Pauley and Amy Fisher and several other great nieces and nephews; " and my girl too" Terry Cook and Debby Pauley.

The family extends special thanks to her caregivers, Grace Lester and Opal Bowen and to her lifelong friends since age 2, Joyce Bowe and Barb Moore and to special friends, Barb Koster, Carolyn Gorrell, Judy Peters, Sherry Richards, Janet Ebarb, Pearl Thompson and Cheryl and Sonny Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
