Lena Joy Ferguson Garrett, 59, of South Charleston, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Joy was born in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Learlene and Bill Ferguson. Joy was a one of a kind mother, mawmaw, and friend who touched the lives of all she met with her strong and magnetic spirit. She loved music, wind chimes, hummingbirds, and had two green thumbs that could make anything grow. Her influential words and caring soul will live on in all those who loved and had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her sister, Julie Ferguson Asbury.

She is survived by her daughters, Alli Shumate of Denver CO, Staci Shumate of South Charleston and Lindsey Shumate of South Charleston; two beautiful grandchildren, Kylee and Brayden Russell; brother, Andy Ferguson of Winfield; longtime friend, Art Shumate; niece, Jenny Jones; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at Little Creek Park Area 6 with food, drinks and memories provided.
