Lewis Edwin (Ed) Gandee, 87 years old, born on Feb 7, 1929, Son of the late Harley Edwin and Beulah Hardwick Gandee, passed away on Saturday morning June 25, 2016, after a lengthy illness
.
Ed attended Dunbar High School (class of 47') was in the United States Air Force as a Crew Chief on P51D Mustangs during the Korean War. He retired in 1986 from Union Carbide with 37+ years of service at both the South Charleston and the Institute Plant. Ed was a 32nd Degree Mason, belonging to Dunbar Lodge No. 159 AF&AM (since March of 1972), a member of the Scottish Rite and the Beni Kedem Shrine.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Connie, Sister Margaret, Brother Donald, Granddaughter Mika Brent and Son in Law Bill Fife.
He is survived by his Wife of 70+ years, his high school sweetheart and love of his life Lola, Daughter Vicki (Keith) Cargill of Hurricane, Son Michael Edwin (Bevie) Gandee of Scott Depot, Daughter Patty (Tom Lynch) Fife of Clemmons NC. Grand Children; Kevin (Michelle) Cargill of Lutz FL, Jennifer Jacobsen of Sarasota FL, Brianne (Jamie) Jordan of Great Falls SC, Matt (Jeni) Fife of Winston Salem NC, Jessie Bowlin of Clemmons NC, Stephanie (Che) DeLaO of Midland TX, Kelly Ray of Lexington KY, and Stephen Edwin Gandee of Scott Depot. Also Brother Ronald (Janice) and Eugene (Carla) Gandee both of Coopers Creek and Sister Peggy Morris of Roebuck SC. He also had 17 Great-GrandChildren, and several nieces and nephews. His four legged "kids" Buddy and Bear will miss their "Daddy". He will also be missed by his neighbors, coworkers, and friends (especially "the gang" at Scoobies - He loved you guys!)
The Family wishes to specifically thank some truly professionals who went out of their way helping him over the past 18 months: Dr Jonathon Lilly (Dunbar Medical), Chet Burdette (Mountain State Prosthetics) and Kelly McGraw Blankenship (Thomas Memorial Physical Therapy).
There will be a funeral service 1 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Keller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park with Masonic Rites performed by Dunbar Lodge #159.
Friends and family may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the relief funds for those effected by flooding over the past week in WV.
