Obituary

Lloyd Victor Monroe, 61, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

He was born on May 2, 1964, in Fostoria, Ohio, the youngest of nine children born to the late Mae and Wilbur Monroe, Sr. of Omar, West Virginia. He was lovingly known by family and friends simply as Victor.

Victor attended Omar Grade School and Junior High School before graduating from Logan Senior High School in 1982. He continued his education at West Virginia State University (HBCU) in Institute, West Virginia.

Victor is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Monroe of Stirrat, West Virginia, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Edwards of Jenkins, Kentucky; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Monroe, Sr. of Omar, West Virginia; his sisters, Shirley Monroe of Detroit, Michigan, and Veronica Monroe of Columbus, Ohio; his brothers, Wilbur Monroe, Jr. of Orlando, Florida, and John E. Monroe of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces, Leona and Ramona; and two nephews, Samuel and Wilbur ("Randy").

Victor is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Shelvy Campbell Monroe; his son (step), Jordan Campbell; and his granddaughters, Jocelyn Campbell and Jade Campbell. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Renae Watson (Alabama), Melissa Phipps (Columbus, Ohio), and Cynthia Young (Otis) (Michigan); and his brothers-in-law, Fred White, Jr. (Dunbar, WV) and Samuel (Vanessa) Witcher (Michigan).

Victor is further survived by his sisters, Darlene Adkins-Davie of Orlando, Florida; Ramona (Monroe) Brown of (Wake Forest, North Carolina); and Donna Monroe of (Columbus, Ohio); and by his brothers, Terriell (Jerri) Monroe, Sr. (Kistler, West Virginia); Gregory Monroe, Sr. (Chuluota, Florida); and David Monroe (Lima, Ohio).

He also leaves behind his loving aunts: Catherine Montgomery and Gwendolyn Brockington, (Columbus, Ohio); Carrie Davis (Wytheville, Virginia); Lucille Scott and Willa Mae Saunders, (Toledo, Ohio); and John W. Monroe (Columbus, Ohio).

Victor deeply cherished the close relationships he shared with his nieces and nephews, who brought him great joy. He also held a special affection for his many cousins, with whom he spent countless days laughing, talking, and creating treasured memories.

His generosity, humor, and kind spirit made every gathering warmer simply because he was there. Victor's legacy of love and compassion lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who shared in his life.

A memorial service will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025 at the Dunbar Athletic Boosters Bingo Hall.
