Lorene M. McBride of Charleston, passed on February 21, 2014 at the home of her son, David, in Mocksville, NC after a short illness.
She was born January 19, 1921, to the late William A. Carpenter and Macel Stonestreet Carpenter. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd E. McBride, her granddaughter Leighann Curry, her brothers, Hilliard E. Carpenter, William E. Carpenter, and sister Reba T. Harless.
She was the beloved mother of three children; David McBride (Martha) of Mocksville, NC, Patricia Poling of Raleigh, NC, and Sue Fields (Mike) of Chesapeake, VA.
Also surviving are siblings, Helen L. Thaxton, David A. Carpenter, and Richard S. Carpenter, all of Sissonville; grandchildren, who loved her dearly, Kelli Dawn McNeely (Allen), Krista D. Manning (Bill), Samuel D. Johnson, Kathryn A. Hampton, Susan Poling, Jeanette Johnston (Eric), Ashley Maxwell, Hardy Maxwell, and Jennifer Maxwell; 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Lorene was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and spent endless hours sewing and making quilts, she was known for her homemade bread and goodies. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was loved by all who knew her.
Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. There will be a reception afterward at the Dunbar Woman's Club.
