Loretta Jean
Mclane
May 26, 1940 – February 7, 2024
Loretta Jean McLane,83, known as "Jean " or "Mawmaw", born in Charleston, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on February 7th, 2024 to rest from pancreatic cancer.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Basil Casto and her mother, Oeda Casto.
Jean was married to James Calvin McLane on June 16th, 1959 at Dunbar United Brethren. A year before their marriage, she had graduated from Dunbar High School in 1958. After 30 years of exceptional, kind service, she retired from United Bank as a Customer Service Specialist.
She is survived by her two daughters, Regina Dawn Wilshere (John), and Julie Christine Lott (Andrew); grandchildren, Amanda Foust (Matthew), Katelyn Aguilar, Jessica Trupo (Anthony), Anna Lott, Benjamin Lott, and Sophie Lott; five great grandchildren, Saphira, Caspian, Evolette, Lyla, and Violet. She cherished her family as the beacon of her life.
Jean was a devoted follower of Christ, and unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active and cherished member of Cross Lanes Bible Church for over 50+ years, where her spirit of kindness, generosity, and genuine warmth radiated in every interaction. Her love for Christ was not confined to the church walls but manifested in her daily life, touching the hearts of those around her. Jean found solace and strength in her faith, and her commitment to living out the teachings of Christ was evident in the compassion she extended to others. Cross Lanes Bible Church was not just a place of worship for Jean, but a community where she forged deep connection and found support. Whether it was participating in church events, or offering comforting presence to fellow congregates, she exemplified the values of love and service.
Beyond her spiritual devotion, Jean seamlessly blended her love for Christ with her passion for fostering joyful connections. Among the cherished memories shared by friends and family are the countless nights spent playing dominos, Skip-Bo, and Rook with Jean. Her competitive spirit was balanced by a contagious sense of joy, turning these games into memorable occasions filled with laughter and friendly banter. The clinking of dominos, playful teasing, and excited shouting of a well-played Rook hand would echo throughout her family's home, creating an atmosphere of shared happiness. These late-night gaming sessions became a cherished tradition, where Jean's warmth and kindness, as well as pure humor and innocence, shone brightly and spread to anyone around her.
Among these numerous wonderful attributes of Jean, in addition, she will be fondly remembered for her exceptional cooking skills. Among her many culinary delights, she was renowned for her signature dishes: Peanut Butter Pie, deviled eggs, and of course, "Jean's beans". In addition to her cooking skills, Jean was a pillar of strength and glue to the family. Many memories were created at her favorite place on earth: Myrtle Beach, where she would annually enjoy endless crab legs from Captain George's and view her family playing on the beautiful shorelines while basking in the radiant sun. These memories were some of her favorite that she would continually and affectionately reminisce and reflect on.
Her life was truly a genuine testament to the power of God's love, generosity, and unconditional love. Friends and family alike recall endless fond memories of laughter and love shared around her home, church or wherever she went. May these memories provide comfort as we bid farewell to a truly remarkable, kind soul.
May her spirit rest in peace with her mother and father in heaven, and may her legacy of bountiful love and warmth continue to inspire us all.
