Lorraine Hayes Sullivan, 84, of Beaver, Pennsylvania, formerly of Dunbar died Friday, April 18, 2008.
Born April 24, 1923 the daughter of the late Howard and Leara Hayes, she was a graduate of Union District High School. Lorraine married Charles Warren Sullivan in 1948 and after living for more than 20 years in Dunbar they moved to Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado and South Carolina before retiring to North Carolina. Five years ago Lorraine moved to Pennsylvania to be near her daughter and grandchildren.
As a young woman she was a member of Tau Phi Lambda Sorority and participated in its many social and charitable activities. Lorraine loved the Methodist Church and was an active member wherever she lived singing in the choir, volunteering and working with the United Methodist Women. She worked as a secretary at Pierpont Elementary School in Dunbar. While living in Houston she held clerical positions at the Johnson Space Center. She has been a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Sullivan and Anthony Kofalt; her beloved grandchildren, Lorraine Katherine Kofalt and Timothy Warren Kofalt of Beaver, PA; her dear sister Katherine Mellert Lorch of Winston-Salem, NC; and nephews Michael Mellert and his wife Sandy of Red House; Paul Mellert and his wife Linda of Canvas; and niece Pam McIntosh and her husband David of Winston-Salem, NC; several great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she enjoyed very much; and her loving caregiver and friend Anna Skidmore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by "Sully", her husband and by her brother Paul Russell Hayes and brother-in-law Robert Mellert.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, April 21, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey Harless officiating. Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
