Obituary

Louis Franklin "Frank" Jones, 77, of Cross Lanes, WV passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by his family.  Up until the end, Frank was sharing his life stories, maintaining his kindness and demonstrating his love for his family.

He was born on August 19, 1948, in Charleston, WV, to the late Emmett and Doris Jones.

Frank grew up in Dunbar, WV where he was a 1967 graduate of Dunbar High School and then went on to graduate from West Virginia State College.  He was retired from American Electric Power as a lineman.  Frank served in the United Sates Air Force, Army Reserves, and WV National Guard for nearly four decades, retiring in 2007 as a Master Sergeant.  He was known for his love of sports and the outdoors.  During his high school years, he was an active athlete, and that passion for athletics carried on throughout his life.  Long after his own children's sports careers ended, he remained a faithful supporter of local teams, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on young athletes and celebrate their accomplishments.

An avid outdoorsman, Frank found great joy in hunting and trapping.  He cherished this time spent in nature, especially with his best friend, Boone Rucker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, JC Hall.

Frank is survived by his wife, Janet, of 57 years; his children, Mary Jean Brewster, Jennifer Casto (Jon), Frankie Jones (Kellie), and Karri Loftis (Rodney); grandchildren, Justin Absten (Ashlee), Nicole Absten, Zoe Perkins (Corey), Hayden Casto, Linden Casto, Lucas Casto, Rhett Jones, and Sierra Sampson (Hunter); great grandchildren, Maxwell, Harrison, McClayne, Mckinlee, Lille, and Baylee; sisters, Vicki Waterson (Ernie) and Kathy Hall.  He is also survived by a host of very special nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved dearly.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the care teams at Thomas Memorial/WVU Medicine, Ruby Memorial Hospital, Encompass Rehabilitation Center, St. Mary's Medical Center, and Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their unwavering commitment, expert care, and the dignity in which they treated Frank.

Per Frank's wishes, no formal services will be held.

He always looked forward to a round of golf with his son and grandson.  The family respectfully requests that any memorial contributions be made to The Maddox Potter Foundation in Frank's honor.
