Lucille Rhodes, 84, of Dunbar, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House West, after an extended illness.
Lucille had been a resident of SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Dunbar.
Lucille was born on December 24, 1927, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith of Fort Gay, West Virginia. At the time of her death, she was a mother and grandmother and had formerly worked at Riley's and Sloan's Department Stores in Dunbar.
Over the past several years, Lucille had struggled with lung cancer and advanced COPD, but never gave up. Her positive attitude, smile and quick wit gave her all that she needed to survive. After many hospital visits, Lucille was taken to SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for rehab. During her short stay there she was able to make so many new friends and even considered it to be her home. The staff gracefully honored her with the opportunity of feeling needed and loved.
At the time of her passing she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Rhodes (Bob); son, Robert E. Rhodes (Bobby) from Kenna; brothers, Cecil Smith of Ohio, Fred Smith of Fort Gay, Robert Smith of Louisa, Ky; sisters, Ruby Sabo of Cleveland, Ohio and Beluah York of Huntington.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Larry Cottrill of Cross Lanes, son, Fredrick A. Rhodes of Yawkey; two granddaughters, Tammy Litton and husband, Clarence of Winfield, and Kimberly King of Cross Lanes; one grandson, Alex Caldwell Rhodes of Hurricane; three great granddaughters, Haley Brianne Litton, Lakin Nicole King and Mallory Ryan Litton.
