Obituary

Marilyn Jean Hatcher, Capt. U.S. Air Force (retired), of Vinton, VA., passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Roanoke, VA.

Born October 28, 1952 in South Charleston, WV, Marilyn graduated from Alderson-Broadus College in 1974 with a B. S. degree in nursing. Upon graduation, she worked five years as a critical care nurse at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. She then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where she achieved the rank of Captain. Marilyn retired from Langley Air Force Base after serving as both an instructor and a recovery room charge nurse.

Marilyn lived a strong Christian life through which her faith brought joy to many. She was a member of the Vinton (VA) Baptist Church and was a former member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston.

Marilyn is survived by her parents, Earl and Mary Sue Hatcher; her brother, Stephen Hatcher and his wife, Cathy; her sister, Cathy Abraham and her husband, David, all of Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by two nieces, Jennifer Hatcher and her husband, Michael Bogan of Gaithersburg, MD and Kristina Abraham of Roanoke, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 28, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. William Booth officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Vinton Baptist Church, 200 E. Washington Avenue, Vinton, VA 24179-4514 or to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1401 Washington Street, W., Charleston, WV 25312.
