April 21, 1926 – January 6, 2024
Martha May Casto Scarbrough, 97, of Astatula, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
She was born in Dunbar, West Virginia, April 21, 1926.
A dedicated homemaker, Martha found joy and purpose in her role as caregiver and nurturer. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, and her home was always open to those in need. Her faith in the Lord and Jesus guided her every action, and her unwavering devotion was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Throughout her life Martha generously volunteered her time and services to numerous churches and community organizations. Her commitment to serving others was evident in her involvement with Tyler Mts Brownies, various church groups, and the PTA. She selflessly dedicated herself to making a positive impact on the lives of those around her. Her contributions will be remembered by all who benefitted from her kindness.
One of Martha's greatest joys was her love for children. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she never turned away a neighbor or friend in need of help. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and provide comfort and support to those facing challenges. Her love for children was boundless and she poured her heart into caring for there grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. Her eyes would light up at the sight of them. Her love for them knew no bounds. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire and uplift those whose loves she touched.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Auvil Basil Scarbrough, and her son, Paul V. Scarbrough.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Scarbrough (Linda of Murrells Inlet, SC, Virgil Scarbrough (Carole) of Clermont, Florida; daughter, Janet Scarbrough Oxley of Sunrise, Florida; sister, Margie Hunt Retamozo of Alexandria, VA; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews along with many dear friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, January 13 in Ferrell Cemetery.
The family will be holding a visitation from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, January 12 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Brown United Methodist Church, 4313 Woodrum's Lane, Charleston, WV 25313 as Martha and Auvil were two of the founding members of the church.
