Martha Young Gross, aged 82, departed this world on October 8, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston after a brave battle with cancer. She was a life-long resident of Charleston, WV.

Martha was born on February 11, 1942, to parents Madeline and William Earle Young. She attended Sacred Heart High School, before graduating from Marshall University with an associate's degree in Secretarial Science. She retired from Jackson and Kelly Law Firm after a long career as a legal secretary. Martha enjoyed watching baseball games, especially the Boston Red Sox, watching crime shows, hanging out with her rescue cats, and spending time with family, especially her daughter, Amy.

She is preceded in death by her sister Mary Ann Wood, her parents, and her husband, William Henderson Gross.

She is survived by daughter, Amy Gross of NC; son, Andrew Gross; granddaughter, Jocelyn Gross; grandson, David Gross, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Gross  all of CO; sister, Claire Devol; brother, William Young, and sister-in-law, Judy Young all of Charleston WV.

Martha had tremendous wit and a quirky sense of humor, which was appreciated by her family and friends. She was the glue that held this family together for many years.

Many thanks to the nurses at Thomas Hospital, and everyone at Hubbard Hospice Hose West. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hubbard Hospice House would be appreciated.

A celebration of life was held in June 2025, on the Potomac River at Smoke Hole Canyon. She was a good mom and my best friend…and will forever be loved and missed.
