Obituary

Our beloved mother, Martha M. Skeen, departed this world and entered into her Father's House in Glory on Friday, October 28, with her daughters by her side after a short illness, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was born on November 19, 1924 to parents, Bradford and Eunice Skaggs.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Paul Skaggs; sisters Elsie and Florence; and one daughter, Joyce Rossmeier on November 7, 2013.

She liked telling everyone she was the mother of 7 daughters, and each of them were her favorite, Her six surviving daughters are, Katie Rose (Jack), Sandra Keen (who was also her best friend and biggest advocate), Margaret Johnson, Irene Skeen, Jeannie Wade (Joe), and Lori Mullens (Howard). She was loving Grandma to, Kelly Quigley (Todd), Jacki Rose, Billy and Russell Hewett, Kerri Raines, Mark Boggs, Jimmy Wandling, Jarred and Cody Payne and, Kaitlyn Stone, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She loved her Lord with all her heart and, was not shy to tell everyone about her savior. She was a faithful member of Maranatha Fellowship Church for more than 20 years, where she made many friends and helped many people. She loved to read her Bible and always gave us Bible verses to put up in our home and everywhere. She went to sleep every night listening to gospel radio on her Bose Radio. She loved to sing old hymns.

She was fiercely independent and only wanted to take care of others. She did not want anyone taking care of her. She was proud to live alone and keep her independence up until 3 days before she passed. She took care of her home and herself with meticulous care. She taught her daughters many things, the value of hard work, morals, character, grace, selflessness and forgiveness.

Special thank you to Dr. John P. Lilly, Dr. Yousaf and Dr. Jarrett for your compassionate care of our mom.

She will be missed fiercely. She was our matriarch, and, our greatest friend.

We will celebrate her life at Maranatha Fellowship Church, St. Albans, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 2pm, with Dr. James R. Wright Jr. officiating, burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Maranatha Fellowship Church.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
