Obituary

Mary Lou (Bowling) Barker, 89, ascended to her Heavenly home on Wednesday evening, November 27, 2024.

Mary was born on October 18, 1935, in Costa, WV, Boone County. Her parents were John M. Bowling and Lillian Gertrude (Rogers) Bowling also of Boone County.

Mary attended Sherman High School, graduation class of 1955 and worked at Crane Supply and McJunkin during the mid-1970's to early 1980's.

Mary was an admirable quilter and loved making heirloom quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She attended Dunbar First Baptist Church and was a devout Christian. Mary was an avid fan of WVU and Dallas Cowboys football teams. She had a heart of gold, loved to laugh and never, ever met a stranger.

Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Jackie L. Barker, Sr.; her mother and father, John M. and Lillian Bowling; sister Zada Goldsberry ; along with her brother, Johnny Bowling, all of Boone County, WV.

Mary is survived by her niece Wanda Fiorilla of New Haven, CT; her children, Diana K. Haid of Dunbar, WV, Jackie L. Barker, Jr. (Michelle) of NC, and Gerald W. Barker (Kathy) of Katy, TX; her grandchildren, Jason Elliott of South Charleston, WV, Criss Barker (Vanessa) of New Braunfels, TX, and Rylie Barker Haffner (Matthew) of Amarillo, TX; her great grandchildren, Jayna and Luke Elliott of Hurricane, WV,  Sophia and Jeremiah Barker of New Braunfels, TX.

Jack Jr. and Gerald wish to express their heartfelt love, gratitude and appreciation to their sister, Diana who has given selflessly over many years providing care, comfort and unwavering support to both their parents' needs. Likewise, the family is infinitely grateful to all their caregivers.

A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 in Donel C. Kinard Veteran's State Cemetery. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Jack, together again for eternity.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
