Mary S. Dolin, 94, of Mooresville, N.C. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
Mary was born on May 19, 1916 in Slate, W.V. She was the daughter of the late John and Winnie Simmons. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Reverend James S. Dolin. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Fred Simmons, Dallas Simmons, Paul Simmons and Delbert Simmons and sisters, Nola Milam and Nellie Stone.
Mary is survived by her devoted sister, Opal Westfall, with whom she lived at the Churchill Senior Living Community. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Hood of Oviedo, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up in West Virginia with seven sisters and brothers. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Dunbar, and worked as a secretary. After she and Jim were married they moved away, as he was in the Army Air Corps. Later, when Jim became a pastor, Mary fully supported him as he started and pastored many churches. Mary served as a church secretary for many years. They lived a very interesting and fulfilling life, traveling to every state in the continental U.S. Mary especially loved their years living out West where they enjoyed farming and gardening. In retirement she and Jim attended Calvary Baptist Church in Hurricane, WV.
After Jim passed away, Mary moved to North Carolina to live with Opal. She and Opal were able to enjoy many years of caring and companionship. Mary was a devout Christian and dedicated Baptist. She always had her daily devotional and Bible reading. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle. Mary's interesting life experiences and sharp mind made her an engaging conversationalist. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 9, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, at Keller Funeral Home with Reverend Millard Mitchell officiating. Following the service, burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar.
