Obituary

Mary Alice Garnes, 90, of Dunbar, passed away on April 30, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House West.

She was born in Jackson County to the late Mance and Ona Casto Lewis. She graduated in 1942 from Ripley High School. In 1946 she married the late Doyle Garnes. Together they owned and operated the Nite Owl Superette in Spring Hill. Mary attended both Dunbar United Methodist Church and Emma Chapel United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by brother, Dallas Lewis and infant brother, Delbert Lewis.

Mary is survived by son, Richard Garnes (Linda) of Shelbyville, TN and daughter, Judy Bennon (Jim) of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Christopher Bennon of Marietta, OH, Drew Garnes (Jennifer) of Winfield, Leah Bennon Thorpe (Doug) of Vienna, Brad Garnes (April) of Kenna, and Beth Jones (Jeremy) of Houston, TX; and seven great-grandchildren. Mary leaves behind many friends, including Patsy Stewart and Lee Kidd.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church on Rt. 34, Kenna, WV with Reverend Dr. Okey B. Harless and Pastor John Mason officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar and one hour prior to service on Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Mary had requested donations be made to Emma Chapel United Methodist Church 1014 Clendenin Creek Rd, Liberty, WV 25124; Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Ave, Dunbar, WV 25064; or Hubbard Hospice House West, 4605 McCorkle Ave SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.
