Mary Louise Mallett, 85, of Dunbar, passed away May 26, 2008 at home after a brief illness.
Mary was born June 10, 1922, in Red House, and lived most of her life in Dunbar and Teays Valley. She was employed for a short time at Fletcher Enamel Company in Dunbar. Mary and her brother Aaron were employed for many years by Goodrich Gulf as caretakers of their Sportsmen Club, where they touched the lives of many people. Her great nieces and nephews, as well as many club members, fondly remember those summers spent camping at the club, where Mary's kitchen table, bathroom and first aid kit were open to all. Her sense of humor and infectious smile will be well remembered.
Mary was preceded in death by her 13 brothers and sisters; Harley Mallett, Charlie Mallett, Minnie Lindsey, Ella Dailey, Aaron Mallett, Albro Mallett, Virginia Mallett, George Mallett, Webster Mallett, Arles Mallett and Paul Henry Mallett. She will be sadly missed by over one hundred nieces and nephews.
Mary has always been thought of as the family historian. She could identify the unknown person in old family photos and recite family events by the daily journal entries she kept throughout her lifetime. Mary generously distributed her homegrown garden vegetables to friends and neighbors and was always available to care for the sick around her.
Mary was particularly close to her great nieces, Debbie, Gale and Kitty Jo, who cared for her during her illness and was with her at her passing. She has been a blessing to all of her family members and will be sadly missed by all.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
