Mary Katherine
Mcclanahan
July 7, 1942 – December 25, 2021
Mary Katherine McClanahan, 79, of Dunbar passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend to all those who knew her. She was a faithful Christian and a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church.
Mary was a stay at home wife and mother and worked part-time for the City of Dunbar as a school crossing guard for many years. She was devoted to her family, making sure they were raised correctly in the Christian faith. Later in life, she helped babysit her grandchildren while her own children worked.
She was a strong-willed person, who never let anything get in her way. Mary was hard-working, independent and always ready to lend a helping hand.
She loved singing in the church choir and also loved sweets, especially chocolate. It was always a treat to go to her house and see what kind of goodies she had stashed away. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. Mary loved her Christmas Eve party, dressed up in a Christmas sweater, surrounded by family. We believe in our hearts that God waited until after the Christmas Eve gathering before he took her to be with Him in Heaven. Her life and memories will forever live on in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her husband, Dale McClanahan; son, Jimmy McClanahan; daughter, Kelli Lanham; sister, Ilene Casto; grandchildren, Caden McClanahan, Josie McClanahan, Camille Lanham, Cody Lanham and Megan McClanahan; along with many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Jarrod Caltrider officiating. Burial will following in Mount Zion Cemetery, Given.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
