Mrs. Mary Lou Hall-Spry of Edgewood Summit, formerly of Kanawha Avenue, Dunbar, passed away on March 23, Easter Sunday morning.
She was born in Belington, WV on March 24, 1928. Mrs. Hall-Spry graduated from Morris Harvey College and Marshall University with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biology. She was an educator in Kanawha County, having taught at Nitro High School, Lincoln Junior High and Stonewall Jackson High School. She retired in 1989 with the closure of Stonewall Jackson High School.
Mrs. Hall-Spry was a member of Humphrey's Memorial United Methodist Church in Dunbar. She taught the adult Fellowship Sunday School Class for many years and was a member of circle. She loved gardening, dogs, learning and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Omar and Maude Phillips, her brothers, Paul and Beltran Phillips and her first husband, John H. Hall, Jr.
Surviving are her daughters, Suzanne Whitaker Leonard and husband, Jerry of South Charleston, Teresa Beth Brown and husband, George of Meridian, MS, and Mary Cynthia Hall and her partner, Bobbie Anderson of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Andrew Whitaker, Thomas Whitaker, Justin Leonard, Sarah Leonard, Francie Brown, Dylan Brown and Ryan Brown. Also surviving is her second husband, James Kendall Spry of Edgewood Summitt; step-daughter, Barbara Spry Lawrence and husband, James T; step-son, James K. Spry, II; step-grandchildren, Douglas B. Spry and wife, Janet, Michelle R. Prokop and husband, Brandon, Michael K. Lawrence, Melinda P. Doupe and husband, Terry; step-great grandchildren, Rene Stilwell, Matthew Spry, Jason Spry, Kristin Mathews, Jamie Prokop, Reise Prokop, J. R. Prokop, Drake Prokop, Maya Lawrence, Ruby Lawrence, Tanner Doupe; step-great great grandchildren, Kennedy Stilwell, Payne Stilwell, Clayton Spry and Mason Spry.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the Dunbar United Methodist Church, Grosscup Avenue Sanctuary, with the Rev. Richie McNiel and the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
