Obituary

With daughter by her side, Kathleen Garrett Vance, 92, of Cross Lanes went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Hubbard Hospice House following a short illness.

She was born April 20, 1920 in Dunbar and was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Myrtle Westfall Garrett.

Kathie was a 1938 graduate from Dunbar High School and a retired secretary for the Kanawha County Board of Education. She served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, was a member of the Walnut Valley Homemakers, Hannah Hobby Club and Jolly Seniors. During retirement she and her husband enjoyed frequent trips with the Ina Webb Travel Club. She was a member of the Randolph Street Baptist Church in Charleston for over 40 years and served her Lord faithfully each day.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernest Lee Vance; sisters, Ruby Townson, Freeda Miller, Fern Kleiner and Thelma Raynes; and one brother, Robert I. Garrett.

Left to honor Kathie and remember her love is her daughter and son-in-law, Cyndie and John Pepson II of Gaithersburg, Md; grandson, Benjamin Lee Kaempf and fiance Ashley Nicole Fletcher also of Gaithersburg, Md.; niece, Micheline and husband, Mike Lauken, of Viera, Fla.; nephews, Dr. Charles and wife, Peggy Horton, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Dr. Robert and wife, Madelyn Raynes of Palm City, Fla.; and Robert I. Garrett II of Fridley, Minn.

The Pepson and Kaempf families would like to extend our gratitude to Danny, Ginger, Nicole and Samantha Pritt for their loving care and faithful support given to both of my parents for many many years. Through the good and difficult times this family was there for them every step of the way and we can't thank them enough for their love and devotion. We would also like to give praise of his glory to the members of Randolph Street Church for their help to quietly prepare my heart through prayer of His word during this hardest of times. Also we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Pam, Stacey and especially Diane of the Hubbard Hospice House.

Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, April 16, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Jason McClanahan officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Monday, April 15 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
