Obituary

Mary Eleanor "Whozie" Fleshman, 86, of Charleston, WV died on July 29, 2025 at home from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on April 27, 1939 in Charleston, WV to the late Charles A. and Gladys (Dawson) Marshall.

Whozie was a 1957 graduate of Charleston High School and went onto Charleston Business School in 1958.  She was a secretary for executives at Union Carbide, FMC Ordinance Division and a US District Bankruptcy Judge; then in 1972, became a homemaker once her children were born.

She enjoyed knitting, ceramics, flower gardening, making candy, and cooking.  Whozie had been a member of Living Faith Church in Marmet since 1990.  Since 1971, she was involved in Christian activities and organizations such as teaching Sunday school and visiting nursing homes. She held offices in Women's Aglow Fellowship and Igniting New Life Ministries, both are women's Christian organizations.  Whozie was an ordained minister by International Ministers Forum.  As a member of several prayer groups, she loved praying for people and special needs.  She loved Jesus and her family with all of her heart.  Whozie was bold, brave, honest, trustworthy, kind and generous.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William L. Fleshman; two daughters, Nicole McKown of Charleston and Catherine Renee' Ellis (Randy) of South Daytona Beach, FL; one grandson, Zachary Burdette; and two granddaughters, Hanna Mangum (Matthew) and Abigail Ellis.  Also surviving are three great grandchildren, and her brother, Earl Marshall of Tampa, FL.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Rita Patel of CAMC along with the nurses/staff at Amedisys and Bringing Back The Village.

A memorial service to honor Whozie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar presided over by Pastor Frank Thomas of Living Faith Church.  Burial will immediately follow in Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
