Obituary

Mattie Ellen Witt Hutsenpiller, of Dunbar, WV, transitioned to life with the Lord, September 4, 2010. She was 91 years old.

She was born March 15, 1919 in Dawson, WV, daughter of the late Robert and Ruhamie Witt.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Hutsenpiller, a daughter, Susan Marie, six brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Anne and Judy and two sons, Carl, II and Michael; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Mattie received her education at Smoot High School, graduating as Valedictorian three years ahead of her class. She then graduated with "High Honors" from Concord Teacher's College at the age of 18 and served as an elementary school teacher at Crawley Grade School in Greenbrier Co., WV.

Mattie was a member of the Methodist Church for her entire life. She was a member of the former Humphreys Memorial United Methodist Church, Dunbar, since 1945 where she served as a teacher, lay speaker, President of the United Methodist Women for several years, a counselor for the M.Y.F., a member of the Board of Trustees and also served on and chaired numerous committees and Methodist Women's circles. She was an accomplished homemaker, seamstress, cook and baker. Her pies were works art and were widely known and desired by many. She was an avid gardener whose lush flowerbeds attracted many passersby to stop and chat. Her life was spent in service of others and her generous spirit blessed the lives of many. Her life was lived as the embodiment of her favorite scripture, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all other things shall be added unto you." Matt: 6:33.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Pete Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
