Phyllis Maxine Carte, 84, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2009.
Born July 15, 1925 in Kanawha County, Maxine was the daughter of the late Walter and Flora Hackney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. Carte, Sr.
Maxine worked at Libby-Owens-Ford, and was a very independent, fun-loving, and was always young at heart.
Mrs. Carte is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbur L., Jr. and Diana Lynn Carte of Charleston, Mark and Carolyn Carte of Martinsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Glen Conner of Charleston, Dinah and Bill Craig of Florida; sisters, Arbutus Withrow of Charleston, Ruth Edens of Sissonville, Aretta Ingram of Charleston, Gladys Tyree of California; nephew, Donnie Withrow; niece, Pam Withrow, and many other special nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Melissa Jean Carte, Robbie Craig, Cassie Craig, Madison Carte, Noah Carte, Chris Conner, Andrew Conner, Kevin Conner, Sean Conner, Samuel Haukeness; great grandchildren, Austin Carte and Tyler Carte.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park.
