Maxine Glee Hall Smith, 87, of Dunbar, WV passed away peacefully at Thomas Hubbard Hospice House West on July 25, 2025.

She was born on February 11, 1938 in Virginia to the late George H. Hall and Cleova Finch Hall.

Maxine graduated with honors in 1957 from Dunbar High School.  She then went on to study and graduate with honors from West Virginia State University where she obtained her teaching degree.  Maxine worked as a switch board operator and was an English teacher at Buffalo High School.

She spent her life attending Fairlawn Baptist where she was a founding member.  Maxine enjoyed traveling to WV State Parks, basket weaving, watching WVU Football, listening to music, along with reading and watching mysteries.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Aaron M. Smith of Nitro; and brother, George Hall of PA.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Marvin C. Smith; son, Jeremy Smith (Mary) of St. Albans; sister, Beverly Grigsby (David) of Winfield; granddaughter, Savannah Cobb (Tyler); great-granddaughter, Sadie; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Fairlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Fisher officiating.  Burial will follow in Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.

Family will welcome visitors two hours prior to the service at the church.
