Melinda Susan Pierson, 68, of Dunbar, went home to rest in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 21, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 8, 1956, in Charleston, to the late William Whittaker and Lorena Simmons.

Susan enjoyed going to her camp and riding on the boat with her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for people. She was a brilliant soul who loved vibrant colors, flamingos, she loved to weed her garden, and go shopping. She was an avid animal lover who rescued countless dogs and cats throughout her life.

Her greatest accomplishments were the two men in her life, her husband, Chuck and her son, Jay. Jay was her pride and joy. She was extremely involved in any sport he managed and wanted him to know how proud of him she was. She made him into the strong, loving, faithful, man he is today.

Susan loved unconditionally and was seen as a mother to many. She will be dearly missed and the mark that she made in the lives of her family and friends will live on forever. We love you, Susan, and cannot wait to see you again.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Whittaker.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Chuck Pierson; son, Jay Pierson of Dunbar; brother, Greg Whittaker of Dunbar; niece, Leslie Kosar and husband Robert of Manassas, VA; and the rest of her loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Rev. Pete Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Heaven's Gateway Memorial Gardens, Winfield.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
