Michael Wayne Adkins, Sr., of Charleston, passed away on May 4, 2026 , at Hubbard House.
He was born to the late Arthur Adkins Sr. and Anna Lucille Adkins on May 17, 1959, in Charleston.
Michael was a graduate of Charleston High School and spent several years working at CAMC Memorial. He later moved to Atlanta, where he lived with his oldest brother, Arthur Adkins Jr.. While in Georgia, he was employed by Coca-Cola, the City of East Point, and Atlanta National Airport.
He eventually returned to West Virginia to help care for his ailing father. Michael later worked at Goodwill Industries, where he continued to demonstrated his strong work ethic and dedication.
Michael will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends. He valued time spent with loved ones, while also cherishing his privacy. He will be fondly remembered for the gentle bounce in his walk and for his welcoming spirit towards everyone he met, including strangers.
In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by brothers, Eddie Young and Howard Dean; and nephew, Donminic Young.
Michael Sr. is survived by his son, Michael Adkins Jr.; brothers, Arthur Adkins Jr. (Bessie) and Anthony L. Adkins; sisters, Joyce L. Thomas, Denise Adkins-Lewis (Buck), Pamela Williams (Kenneth), Kimberly Adkins-Irving (Merrill), and Kessell L. Adkins; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Michael’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A time of remembrance will be held to celebrate Michael’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service to share stories and honor the impact Michael made at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
