Michael "Mikey" Dwayne Varnado

Michael “Mikey” Dwayne Varnado, 42, made his earthly transition from this earthly house to his eternal home on Monday afternoon, August 3, 2026.

He was born on March 8, 1984 in Charleston, WV, to his parents Lee Edward Varnado and Ginnie Lee Varnado.

Michael was the second oldest of five children. He was a member of Rimson Memorial Church of God in Christ under his Pastor Dr. Bruce E. Hogan. He was the drummer there for a season. He later moved to Brookside Ministries Church of God in Christ in Mount Carbon, WV. He was the godson of the late Dr. Ethel Caffie-Austin and traveled with her and well renowned group C.I.D. (Christ Inspiration Delegation) to Spain and their drummer at the age of seventeen.

Michael was so comical, he loved to joke and bring laughter anywhere he went. He loved to walk, even if he was offered a ride, he would rather walk and enjoy the sunshine. He loved celebrating the holidays with family. He was so caring and giving. Anyone who knew him knows he would give you his last. He had a very gentle spirit and was always smiling. He was faced with challenges and experiences but the Lord brought him out of them.

Michael received his education in Kanawha CountySchools and received his certificate in HVAC. In recent years he worked at various establishments such as Holiday Inn Express, Clarion, and lastly Goodwill Industries.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leathell Ellzey Sr.; maternal grandparents, Export Hines and Rosa Lee Hines.
