Mildred Jane
Crawford
May 23, 1961 – May 4, 2023
Mildred Jane Crawford died on May 4,2023 at her home in Charleston, with her daughter, grandchildren, siblings and mother at her bedside.
She was born on May 23, 1961 in Oak Hill to James Crawford, who preceded her in death and mother, Emma Sue Samuel.
Millie leaves behind her only child, Latasha Varner and two grandchildren, Eric and Nariah who were her world. She spent everyday with them and they keep her busy, she never missed a game, a book fair, or school trip ever.
She would wake up in the middle of the night at the request of her "kids" wanting pancakes or whatever else. Millie was a loving sister, being the oldest to brothers, George, Anthony, Omar and Kelly; her sisters, Audrieanne and Evelyn. She was what they called their second mom. Another role she loved was Auntie. She held all their secrets and was always a shoulder to lean on. There was nothing she would not do for her nieces, Duquina, Evelyn, Shanice, Jye, Brieonna, Antonia, Tyana, Alizabeth, Alicia; and her one nephew Barrius.
And was even more siked about being a great aunt to Charlie and Cain. Her two sisters-in law were pretty fond of her as well, Kiesha and Tanya. In fact she would just say her sisters. Millie also held the title of friend very serious as well. In fact they were her soul sisters, Margaret Ann, Jackie, Melonie, and Mickey. They grew up thick as thieves.
Millie had many hobbies, cooking and baking were one of her favorites. There was never a person who she did not feed at some point. Don't have a deck of cards because she wanted to play, and be the dealer. That was her Friday Night routine, and her card buddies became like family. Her own personal love was sitting on the porch every morning with her mother to have their cup of coffee. This was a morning ritual no matter what the weather was outside.
Mildred Jane Crawford will be missed by so many because she was great at everything she did and most of all her big heart and never judging anyone!
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Thomas Tolliver officiating.
Friends and family are welcome to gather one hour prior to the service. There will be a repass celebration of life dinner to follow at Second Avenue Center on the Westside of Charleston.
Arrangements are in care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
