Mildred Ruth "Millie" Smith, 79 of Dunbar, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Hospice House West.
She was the widow of William R. Smith. They shared 43 years of marriage together.
Mildred was born in Bergoo on May 28, 1936. She was the youngest daughter of Benson and Clemence (Kelley) Hamrick, both preceded her in death.
She graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1953, then attended Berea College in Kentucky, and graduated from West Virginia State College. Mildred then obtained her Master's Degree from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies (now Marshall College of Graduate Studies). Mildred was a member of the former Humphrey's Memorial Methodist Church in Dunbar. She transferred to the former First United Methodist Church (which later merged to form Dunbar United Methodist Church).
Millie enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach (while her husband was living); bus trips to dinner theaters, church activities, working crosswords, reading, and dining out with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her son, James D. Smith; and her brother, Gordon T. Hamrick.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Janet D. Messer (John) of Tyler Mountain; two granddaughters, Jamie Lynn Messer of Tyler Mountain, Amanda Nicole Smith of Poca; sister, Betty Jane Beck (Bill) of Marion, Ohio; and three nephews.
Per Mildred's request, she will be cremated. No services are scheduled, also per her instructions.

The family would like to thank Reverend Okey Harless, the hospice staff, and all of her wonderful friends who sent cards and prayers through this difficult time.
