Obituary

Mother Lucille House, 88, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2024 surrounded by her three daughters and extended family.

She was born on February 1, 1936 in Ward, WV to the late William and Hattie Preston.

Lucille retired from AVCO in Port Chester, NY and Laidlaw School Bus Company after many years.  After moving back to West Virginia to care for her mother-in-law, she cared for numerous family members and others in the community.

She served as a Missionary and Treasurer at The Church of the Living God for over 20 years in Port Chester, NY under Bishop Robert Girtman.  Lucille served as a Church Mother at Powerhouse of Deliverance Church for over 30 years in Dunbar, WV under Bishop Melvin Mosley.  She took every opportunity to encourage others.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Howard House, Jr.; her in-laws, Howard House Sr. and Etta Jones; her son, Cecil House, Sr.; her daughter, Tamel House; her granddaughter, Rocquel House; her brother, James Preston; her sisters, Dorothy Mitchell and Sarah Nowling; her son-in-law, Richard Peterkin; and her sister-in-law, Edrema Newsome.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Peterkin and Minister Cheryl House of Dunbar, WV, and Delmetris Peterkin (John) of Washington, PA; her sister-in-law, Rosharon Cordell (Earl) of Columbus, OH; her brother-in-law, Leonard Barron of Columbus, OH; her nephew, Robert Woodson of San Jose, CA, who was like a brother to her; 11 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lucille was beloved and will be missed by many.  She was known to be working in her yard, helping with kids, or sitting on her porch waving to the countless people who drove by to say hello.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Powerhouse of Deliverance Church with Bishop Melvin Mosley officiating. Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
