Muriel Smith Harrison, 96, of Dunbar, passed away June 6, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House.
Muriel was born in Jackson County, daughter of Virgil and Martha Smith. In 1935, she and her husband, Sattis, moved to their much loved Dunbar home where she lived for 73 years.
The self-proclaimed "mayor of 7th street," Muriel was loved and admired by family and friends. Her passion was her home and she enjoyed family parties, square dancing and cheering on the Mountaineers. All who knew her were drawn to her quick wit, positive outlook and fierce independence.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Mary Kay; grandchildren, Dan Sullivan of Hebron, OH, Diana (Sullivan) Drake and her husband, Mark of Blacklick, OH and Christine (Harrison) Durrenberger and her husband, Stephen of Hurricane; great grandchildren, Meredith Durrenberger and Nathan Durrenberger of Hurricane, Mark Daniel Drake of Blacklick, OH; sister-in-law, Jeanette Smith of South Carolina; and loving nephews, nieces and friends.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sattis G. Harrison; daughter, Rosemarie Sullivan; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Ruth Smith, Benjamin Clifford and Gertrude Smith, Brooks and Westine Smith and brother, Jim Smith.
Family will receive friends from 6 to9 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
A tribute to Muriel's life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, followed by burial at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

The family wishes to thank the staff and "neighbors" at Regency Place for their friendship and kindness and the staff and volunteers at Hubbard Hospice House for the loving care they provided to Muriel and the family during her last days.
