Myrtle L. "Toddy" Clendenin, 83, of Cross Lanes, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 25, 2009 in Hubbard Hospice House.
Myrtle's first job was with the Naval Ordinance Plant - General Machinery Division, during World War II. She later was owner and operator of Toddy's Place, Tyler Mountain. Her last job was her greatest accomplishment as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Toddy was born on December 14, 1925, in Charleston, to the late Emmitt and Beaulah Bowen. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Faye Robinson; brothers, Emmitt Bowen, Jr., Benjamin Bowen.
Mrs. Clendenin is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fred W. Clendenin; daughters, Linda Lucas, and her husband, Ralph, of Cross Lanes, Rebecca Clendenin of Cross Lanes, Karen Beckett, and her husband, George, of Scott Depot, Pamela Shamblin, and her husband, Art, of Charleston, Cynthia Cole, and her husband, Harold, of Nitro; brothers, Frederick Bowen of Nitro, Marion Bowen of Kenna; sisters, Edna Marie Smith of Dunbar, Mary Jane Robertson of Williamsburg, VA, Barbara Ann Fraas of California, Velva Price of Charleston; grandchildren, Steve Lucas, Fred Lucas, Harold Lee Redman, Jr., Beth Redman Legg, Matt Cole, Connie Beckett; 7 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to their mother's loving caregiver, Pennie Anderson. The family wishes to also express its gratitude to the staffs of SunBridge and Hubbard Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Brian Cantrell officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m., at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
