Nancy Ann
White
August 20, 1945 – August 11, 2023
Nancy Ann (Walker) White, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 11, 2023. Nancy passed away at Hubbard Hospice West, located at WVU-Thomas Hospital in South Charleston, after a long illness.
Nancy was raised in Dunbar by her parents, the late Elbert and Electa Walker. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1964 and attended West Virginia State University in the 1980s as part of its Bachelor of Regents program. She retired from Charleston Area Medical Center after working at its hotel for nearly 20 years. She was a lifetime member of Calvary United Methodist Church until its merger with what is now Dunbar United Methodist Church.
Nancy had a special soul. Throughout her life she loved all she met unconditionally. She never recognized people's differences, embracing everyone with her warmth, joy, and love. She was a friend to all who met her. Music was very important throughout her life, and Nancy had a beautiful soprano voice in church choirs. As a child, she sang solos on the Sleepy Jeffers' Charleston radio show. She was an exceptional storyteller, able to spin the mundane into something interesting and fun, and she loved to laugh. Nancy famously did not cut her hair for more than 20 years, her long white hair or ponytail sticking out from under one of the numerous hats from her collection.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eben Duane White Jr.; daughter, Beth A. White; son, Eric White (Bridget). In addition, she is survived by her numerous friends, extended family, and four-legged grandchildren.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Avenue, Dunbar with Bishop Melvin L. Mosley and Pastor Jarrod Caltrider officiating.
Family and friends will gather for visitation one hour prior to the service at Dunbar United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to Little Victories Animal Rescue, 3589 Wire Branch, Road, Ona, West Virginia 25545, or to HospiceCare,
1606 Kanawha Boulevard West, Charleston, West Virginia 25387.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
