Obituary

Neal D. Smith, 80, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2011.

He was born June 29, 1931 in Dunbar. He had a long battle with Parkinson's disease but succumbed to a short battle with Multiple Myeloma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray & Bessell Smith; and his sister, Nancy Smith.

Surviving are his former wife, Eloise Smith; his son, David Smith (Sherry); daughter, Patricia Harrison (Bill); stepdaughter, Karen Rosen (Dave) all of Dunbar; sister, Susan Meyer (Gil) of Delaware; brothers, Steve Smith (Betty) of North Carolina, and Corky Smith (Suzan) of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was a former member of Dunbar First Baptist Church for many years where he was a troop leader in Boy Scout troop 46. He was President of Resident Council at The Arbors and loved to play bingo. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, 101st Airborne Division and 28th Infantry.

We would like to give special thanks to Mary Stutler and the third floor staff of The Arbors of Gallipolis for the concern and exceptional care during his residence there and especially to his roommate and best friend, Manford Mallett.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Arbors of Gallipolis Activities Dept., 170 Pinecrest Drive, Gallipolis, OH 45631.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
