On the sweetest day of the year, Saturday, February 14, 2015; one of the sweetest women, Norma Jean McLeod, 80, of Dunbar, went to join the angels.
Born January 30, 1935, Norma Jean was raised in an orphanage without her own parents, but that only strengthened her desire to build a loving family; which she did. She was truly the matriarch of our family and she will be deeply missed.
She always made the best of what she had and believed in hard work and perseverance. She spent most of her career as the warm, always lipstick'd smile that greeted you at the West Virginia Housing Development Fund in Charleston while residing in Dunbar with her husband. I am sure that she would want us to remember her with only fond memories and smiles.
Norma was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Lynn Glass; brothers, Lesley and John Waggoner; sisters, Juanita and Frances; and special nephew, Kent Waggoner.
The family left behind includes her devoted husband, Ervin Ray (Mac) McLeod; son, Charles Robert Petry; daughter, Pamela Jean Schwarz; three grandchildren, Danielle (Phillip) Burke, Michael (Chasity) Jones, and Garrett Underwood; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives who honored her as the lady she was.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Rev. Jimmy McKnight officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Keller Funeral Home.
