Octavia Price Jones

Octavia Price Jones was born March 12, 1944, in Kanawha County, West Virginia, to Olga Mae Moore and William Porter Chambers. At an early age, she was adopted and raised by Hortense M. Price. In Charleston, WV she completed her education from Boyd Elementary & Junior High and Garnet Adult Education Center where she earned her high school equivalency.

Octavia went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 31, 2026. Octavia was a member of the First Baptist Church family where Rev. Paul A. Dunn is Pastor. She worshipped and served as a greeter and doorkeeper.

Octavia was employed at Charleston Area Medical Center for 28 years working at the Memorial Division, General Division and at Women and Children’s Hospital. She served as a Health Unit Coordinator. After retirement she continued to work with numerous families in the area providing support and companionship. She is known for great cooking which she shared generously with family and friends. Her joy came from being kind to people in all capacities.

Mrs. Jones was married to the late Harrison Jones on August 22, 1974. Gone before her are sisters, Natalie Dixon, Marie Mills, Elizabeth Wellman and Betty Booker; and brother, Harold Smith.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children Karen Smith, Marlene Price, Marvin Price, Denise Tolliver, Melissa Price and Kim Jones; her siblings, Queen Smith of Charleton, WV; Betty Brown of Philadelphia, PA; Greg Wellman (Carolyn), Mike Wellman (Cheryl), Freddie Wellman (Greta), and Maria Fitzgerald — all of Detroit, MI. She is blessed with 12 grandkids, a host of great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and many family and friends.

She loved flowers and appreciated her beautiful yard which she lovingly cared for with the assistance of Meg and Dural.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at 12 noon on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at First Baptist Church Charleston. Friends and family may gather on hour prior to the service.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
