Obituary

Oleeta Ruth Ferrell Buckner, 89, of Dunbar passed away quietly in her home on Friday, January 29th.

With her family present, she peacefully passed to her Heavenly Father and husband's waiting arms. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Spencer Ferrell and Chloe Marie Crites Ferrell, husband, Sylvester Mason Buckner and brother, Herbert Joseph Ferrell.

She is survived by daughters, Leora Marie Zeller of Newport News, Virginia, Maidah Murdayne Harrison (David Harrison) of Dunbar and son, Joseph Mason Buckner (Terrie Buckner) of Monroe, Georgia and four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Born October 2, 1920, in Grantsville, WV, Oleeta lived a life of service to family, friends and community. During World War II, she worked in an aircraft engine production plant. She later served as Poll Captain for the Kanawha County Board of Elections from the early 1950's until the mid 1960's. She was an adult Sunday school teacher at the former Humphreys Memorial Methodist Church in Dunbar and was a member of the Dunbar United Methodist Church. Oleeta served as a distinguished member of the Auxiliary at Thomas Memorial Hospital for 30+ years, twice as President.

The family would like to thank home nurse and long-time friend Donna Shortt for her two years of loving care and professionalism. In addition, we wish to thank Hospice for their assistance in her final days.

After cremation, a memorial service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
