Opal Eismon Johnson, 101, passed away November 10, 2012, in Charleston.
She was born in Minnora, WV, on August 11, 1911, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Ella Knotts Eismon. The family later moved to Spencer.
She attended Glenville State College, where she received a teaching certificate, and afterword taught briefly at an elementary school in Roane County before continuing her education at Glenville State and West Virginia University and earning a Master's Degree.
On January 30, 1937, she married Richard McCanse Johnson, a native of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. They resided first in New York City, and then they moved to Spencer, where she again taught school. Upon her husband's death in 1957, Opal moved to Kanawha County. Her first teaching assignment was at Watts Elementary School. She later transferred to Point Harmony Elementary School, serving there as principal until she retired at 1976.
After her retirement, she spent winters in Satellite Beach, Florida, with family. Her interests included golfing, overseas travel, and painting. She was a member of Humphreys Methodist Church in Dunbar.
She is survived by her sister, Dormal Eismon Cometti of Charleston, four nieces, a nephew, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her spouse, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar. Burial will be at the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer.
