Obituary

Opal Mae Slater, 84, of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

She was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.

Opal was a member of Mountain Mission of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Junior Westfall; mother, Ida Alberta Slater Hammonds; step-father, John Morgan Hammonds; sister, Naomi Geneva Hammonds Blankenship; brother, Lewis Edward Hammonds; maternal grandparents, who raised her, Simon Prior Slater and Melissa Jane McClanahan Slater; and paternal grandparents, Lewis Allen Westfall and Lula Irene Elmore Westfall.

Opal is survived by her sister, Goldie Hammonds Reed of Charleston; brother, Mansford Nelly Hammonds and wife, Wanda, of Charleston; cousin, who she was raised with, Ray Elmer Casdorph and wife, Barbara, of Charleston; several nieces and nephews; and other cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2016, at Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Sissonville with the Rev. Dana Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories.

Visitation will be one hour prior at the cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
