Obituary

Orin K. "Mac" McCallister, 79, of South Charleston, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Valley Center due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

He was born on August 8, 1931 the youngest of 12 children born to the late Charles Kenneth and Gertrude Ellen McCallister.
Mac retired in December 1993, after working 43 years at Union Carbide, starting out as a mail carrier, and at retirement he was manager of the H.E.L.P. team. He was a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge, and loved playing golf, reading, and most of all traveling with family and friends. He especially loved the trips to Gatlinburg with his girls and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dixie Leavens McCallister; two sisters, Vada (Frank) Smith, Ada (Charles) Middleton; brothers, the Rev. Cade (Delta) McCallister, Howard (Mary) McCallister, Ivan (Elise) McCallister, Earl (Ruth) McCallister.

Mr. McCallister is survived by his daughter, Nancy Katherine "Kathy" McCallister of South Charleston; sisters-in-law, Ruth McCallister, Betty Leavens Boggess, and Ruth E. Leavens; special nephews, Richard "Chug" Skaggs, Jason Skaggs; great nephew, Corey Skaggs; and his favorite little red-haired girl, Lauren E. Skaggs; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Kathy would like to thank the nurses and staff at Valley Center for his excellent care; Jim and Linda Bailey for always being there, Vicki M. Stephens for his private duty nursing care, and all our friends at Kanawha Community Technical College for granting me time to spend these last few days with my dad.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Entombment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
