Burdette
September 18, 1929 – October 10, 2016
Orville H. Burdette, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2016.
He was born in Ruth, on September 18, 1929, to the late Sylvester and Lena Burdette.
He worked as a bus driver for West Hamlin Bus Line from 1948-1950, and then as a city bus driver for Capital Transit Bus Line from 1950-1955. He was employed by Pfaff and Smith Builders Supply Company as a crane operator and maintenance worker from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132.
He attended Dunbar Mountain Mission Church. He loved being with his family and friends, and always had a smile for everyone. He was loved by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Orville was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtle Thornton, Marie Childers and Lucille Barker; and brothers, Ventrue, Forest, Kermit, Leo, and Harry.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Altha Wilson Burdette; daughters, Cindy Perdue (Steve) of Charleston, and Gail Nichols (Rob) of South Charleston; granddaughter, Lily Nichols; sisters, Macel Bailes of Beckley, Thelma Pauley of Dunbar and Frances Bucklen of South Charleston; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Stonerise Home Health, along with all of the health care professionals who so compassionately and diligently attended to Orville during his extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church with the Rev. Ray Parsons and the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
