Obituary

Otmer Shamblin, of Cross Lanes, God called him home on November 30, 2017. As he was working in his yard an angel came and gently wrapped her wings around him and carried him to Heaven.

Otmer was born in Liberty in 1912. He was 105 years old. He was a Christian.

He lived through the hard years of Great Depression and so determined that his wife and children would not experience those same hardships. He worked at Libby Owens Glass Plant in Dunbar, the Rubber Plant in Institute, and retired from Carbide in South Charleston. He provided well for his family.

He was a quiet man. Otmer was kind and had not a drop of malice in him. He was witty and loved to play little jokes on people. He would never say an unkind word or take the Lord's name in vain. He and his wife brought all of their children up in the Nazarene Church. He loved his children with all his heart and showed his love until the end of his life.

Otmer loved to work outside and in his garden. Throughout his life this was his passion. He had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers every year. Age could not keep him down. He was always doing something inside or out. He loved Poptarts and said that is why he had lived so long.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Shamblin; parents, Cora and Champ Shamblin; sister, Deloris Henson; brothers, Otto, Guthrie, Woodrow, Hershel, Henry, and Irvin; grandchild, Baby Kenny Shawver; and great-grandchild, Richard Beary.

Otmer is survived by his daughters, Vivian Knight, who resided with him in Cross Lanes, Patsy Honaker (Richard) of Florida, Jean Beary of Cross Lanes, Rebecca Teal (Bobby) of Scott Depot, and Penny Patton (Elton) of Poca. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Leona Casto and Mary Mallory of Hurricane; and sisters-in-law, Arvilla France (Chester), Delores McNealy (Denny), and Lillian Honaker.

We, his daughters, are proud and honored to have had such a wonderful dad. He was a blessing. Our family would like to thank Julie Eads for all the love she showed her grandfather. He was always happy to see her. She helped him in many ways as his sight failed. She loved him and she showed it. We'd also like to thank Mike Beary who helped his grandfather by mowing the lawn for many years. Otmer really appreciated all Mike did for him.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
