Obituary

Paul "Poppy" Parsons, 74, of Tornado, passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at home after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on October 15, 1945, in Charleston, the son of the late Russell Parsons and Thelma Berry Parsons.

Paul was a maintenance man for John Douglas Anderson Apartments in west Dunbar for many years. What started as a job ended in a love for all the people and little kids he got to meet along the way, especially the Duelly family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Joyce Parsons; and two brothers, Ronald and Leroy.

Paul is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dora Williams Parsons; sons, Ernest "Bo" Vanway (Crissy), Paul David and Russell (Abby); daughters, Frances Vanway (John) and Paula (Chris); grandchildren, Cassie (Matt), Corey, Kristina, David, Angela and Damien; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brooklyn, Kasey, Dominique, Avery and Colton; brothers, Herb (Lou), Charles (Caroline), Delbert (Bonnie) and Kenny (Vicky); sister, Patty; brother-in-law, Lawrence (Rosemary); special friends, Edward Miller, Candace Payne and Larry Pauley; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, at Kanawha State Forest, shelter #8, to remember what great man he was.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
