Obituary

Paul Richard Schoolcraft, of Charleston, who would ask "Are you traveling or going somewhere?" completed his 83 year journey on October 31, 2007 at home with his family by his side.

He was born and raised in Roane County and was a US Navy veteran of WW II, having served his country as a Radioman 3rd Class and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Paul worked and retired from Union Carbide, Institute Plant, after 40 dedicated years of service. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, South Charleston.

His passion was life itself with each day being better than the one before. From spring's fresh cut grass and new turned soil to the smell of wood shavings and saw dust from newly made toys, Paul's thoughts were of family first.

Paul is the son of the late Olen Sinnett and Mary Lila Schoolcraft. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Grant Schoolcraft and grandsons, Joshua Prado and Charlie Gardner.

Left to carry on his spirit of life is his loving wife and best friend, Ruth Anne. Paul is survived by sisters, Mary Tatterson, Doris Mangus and Jane Cunningham. Also surviving are children, David Schoolcraft, Joyce Prado, Kathy Rhoades, Paula Gardner and Mary Anne Hamrick. His grandchildren are Emily Chitnis, Amy and Anne Schoolcraft, Jennifer and Mary Ellen Prado, Kyle and Eric Rhoades, Harper and Katie Gardner, Paul and Aaron Hamrick and great grandson, Aidan Hamrick.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Claudia A. Fizer officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 2, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
