Paul Alan Thomas (PT), 57, of Dunbar passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home following a long battle with liver disease and complications of a liver transplant.
He was born April 29, 1955 in Dunbar. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Class of '73. Paul was a Parade Magazine All American Football player in 72-73, a Vietnam Veteran, organizer of the 50th Commode Bowl game and a player and coach for many years as a River Rat. He also loved to play golf and fish.
Paul worked at Thomas Memorial Hospital and the Dunbar Sanitary Board.
Survived by his wife, Terry Thomas of Dunbar; daughter, April Thomas Konieczny of Plainfield, IL; sons, Shannon Taylor of Dunbar, and Chris Hunt and wife Crystal of Hurricane; brothers, David Cisco and wife Ruth of Dunbar, and Mark Thomas of Dunbar; sister, Kathy Doeffinger and husband Paul of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Madison, Matthew, Emma Konieczny, Olivia, Quentin Taylor, and Garrett Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lottie and Backus Thomas of Dunbar; brothers, Harold Thomas of Nitro, and Dana Thomas of Dunbar.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He also loved his dogs, Savannah Jo and Laurie Beth.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at Dunbar First Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Jarrell officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to service.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA, and the Dunbar Emergency Rescue Unit of Dunbar.
