Paula Kai Smith transitioned from her earthy home on October 24, 2026.
She was born on June 2, 1969 in Pikeville, Kentucky to Edward and Gertrude Smith. Her life was dedicated to caring for others, family, friends and strangers. Early in life she was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pikeville, Kentucky. A graduate of Pikeville High School, Paula participated in basketball, percussionist in the band and a member of the Honor Guard.
Paula was known as the “Auntie who pinched daily members’ butts”, (they were always warned when they met her). Her smile and infectious laugh lit up a room and she ALWAYS made sure her presence was known, be it entering a home, or entering her nephews 8th grade graduation.
She is survived by her father, Edward Smith; children, Audrey Brown of Lithonia, GA, Edbonee Smith of Charleston, WV, and Douglas Smith of Destin, FL; grandchildren, Isaiah, Abigail, Grace, Ezra, Aleigha, Hannah, EdDonis, and EdDonia; sisters, Edliniae Sweat (Wesley), and Ursula Brown; nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Avery (Adrienne), TJ (Megan), Asia, and Alijah; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Paula was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Smith; and brother, Todd Smith.
