Obituary

In loving memory of a truly remarkable woman, Paulette Reed, who graced this world with her presence on October 20, 1945, in the charming town of Madison, West Virginia. Paulette peacefully departed this life on April 27, 2026, at home, surrounded by her beloved family. Her passing marks the end of a beautiful chapter, but her legacy of love and kindness endures.

Born to Garnet and Aline Pauley, Paulette was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her cherished parents; her devoted husband and best friend of 40 years, David Reed; her brothers, Eugene, Charles, and Hansel Pauley; and her sisters, Mildred Pauley and Macel Rhodes. Despite these losses, Paulette remained a pillar of strength and love for her family.

Paulette's life was woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to family. She is survived by her children: Tammy McCormick (Randy), John Hines (Sherri), Brian Hines, Kim Allen (Mike), Scott Hines (Chrissy), and Jason Hines (Melissa). Her sister, Kathy Gillenwater, also survives her. Her family extends to 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews, each of whom carries a piece of her heart and spirit.

Paulette's journey with her beloved Dave Reed began on November 10, 1999, in Kentucky. Their union was a tapestry of love and adventure, filled with 40 years of cherished moments and never a dull moment. Together, they created a home that was a sanctuary of warmth and acceptance.

Paulette was a compassionate caregiver by profession, owning several successful care homes throughout her life. Her calling was to care for the elderly, and she did so with dignity and grace, leaving a lasting impact on all those she cared for.

Her love for her family was boundless, and her ideal day was one spent in the company of her loved ones, sharing a meal she had lovingly prepared. Paulette was a masterful cook, and her culinary creations were as delightful as her sweet and sassy personality. Her home was always welcoming, her door open to those in need of a meal or a place to rest their heads.

Paulette's quick wit and infectious laughter were her trademarks. She was a woman of unwavering strength and compassion, whose presence could lift spirits and chase away the darkest clouds. To her family, she was the blue sky through the clouds, the bright sun through the rain, and the lighthouse guiding them in the dark. Her teachings and love will forever endure within them.

"To the woman who kept our family together; who kissed our every 'booboo'; who wiped the tears from all our faces at one time or another; who hugged us so tight at times we couldn't breathe; who sometimes skipped a meal so we would not; who always made room; who loved us all the same and unconditionally--Thank you. Thank you for giving all of you, to all of us. We love you and will miss you more than you will ever know."

Paulette Reed was our everything, and though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and the love she shared will forever be our guiding light. Until we meet again, she will watch over us with those crystal blue eyes, protecting us every day of our lives.

A graveside service to honor Paulette's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 4, 2026, in Cunningham Memorial Park, located on Kanawha Terrace, in St. Albans, WV with Mark Gillenwater officiating.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who gave so generously of herself to others.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
